Common Signs Your Car Needs New Tires

Beyond your brakes, tires are one of the most important features that keep you and your passengers safe on the Seattle roads. As you drive, the tread gradually gets worn away; when the tread gets too low, it can put you at greater risk of losing traction, blowouts, hydroplaning, and difficulty braking effectively.

How often you’ll need to replace your tires depends on several factors, including how much you drive, the type of tires you use, and your driving habits. Most manufacturers recommend replacing your tires every 6 years, regardless of mileage.

Some common signs your car needs new tires include:

  • The tread wear bars are flush with the tread
  • Uneven tread wear
  • Visible cracks in the rubber
  • Bulges on the sidewall
  • Difficulty maintaining proper tire pressure
  • New vibrations or thumping while driving

Another way to tell whether you need new tires is to check the tire tread depth. You can do this using a tread gauge from any auto parts store, or the penny test. Take a penny, and with Lincoln’s head pointing down, insert the penny into your tread. If any part of Lincoln’s head is hidden by your tires, you have an adequate amount of tread left. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to replace your tires.

The Benefits of New Tires

Dealership

Keeping your tires in good condition offers several benefits, including:

  • Better gas mileage
  • Improved handling and performance
  • A smoother, more comfortable ride

With a wide selection of tire brands and styles, we’re sure to have the perfect set for your vehicle, including touring tires, performance tires, and seasonal tires!

What Kind of Tires Should I Buy?

In general, it’s best to replace your tires with the same type your car came with. This will ensure that all the components work well together, so you have a safe, secure ride.

If you’d like to change the tire size, talk to your service advisor. In some cases, other parts or components will need to be switched out to accommodate the new tires. Changing the size of your tires can also change other aspects of your vehicle, like braking, suspension, and handling.

Tire Upkeep

After replacing your tires, it’s best to keep up with some simple maintenance to help preserve your tread life. Although tire service intervals are dependent on mileage and driving conditions and habits, here are some basic guidelines:

  • Check the tire pressure every 2 to 4 weeks
  • Tire rotation: every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.
  • Tire alignment: every 1 to 2 years
  • Tire balancing: every 5,000 to 7,500 miles or every 2 years

So, are you ready to get started?

Excellent service, quality repairs

Excellent service, quality repairs, and great prices. After a bad experience at a local BMW dealer, I came here. Repairs were much less, and some of the repairs the dealership said weren’t even needed.
